Editorial Policy
How ThePickleballCourt.ca researches pickleball gear, sources product data, and keeps recommendations independent.
This page is the working standard for how we research, write, and update content on ThePickleballCourt.ca. It exists so readers know what “recommended” means here — and what it does not.
What we cover
We focus on paddles, court shoes, and portable nets that Canadian players actually search for and can buy via the Canada store, plus supporting categories (balls, bags, apparel, accessories) when they help a complete setup. Guides are written for beginners through advanced tournament players, including seniors and players with specific fit needs such as wide feet or plantar fasciitis.
News posts cover brand launches, sponsorship moves, and tour-adjacent gear context. News is dated and attributed (“the brands say,” “industry coverage reported”) and is not a substitute for a full buying guide.
Research process
- Playing job first: we start from the problem (control at the kitchen, lateral shoe support, a portable net for driveway play) rather than a brand press release.
- Public sources: manufacturer listings, official rules bodies (for regulation topics), and reputable industry reporting. We summarize claims; we do not invent quotes, lab results, or review counts.
- Catalog integrity: products referenced in articles must exist in our gear database (
gear.json) with a stable product ID. Articles pull display data from that catalog — they do not duplicate conflicting specs. - Honesty about gaps: if a weight, material, approval status, or other claim is not confirmed, we mark it or leave it out. We do not fabricate “tested” language.
- Audience fit: a “best” pick is always best for someone — we say who, and when a cheaper or older model is the smarter buy.
Product IDs and the catalog
src/data/gear.json is the product source of truth. Components such as product cards and comparison tables resolve products by ID. If a product is not in the catalog, we do not invent an affiliate URL or paste raw Amazon links into article prose. New products get added to the catalog first, then referenced from guides.
Prices, ratings, and what we will not claim
We use approximate catalog price tiers ($, $$, $$$) or clearly labeled “as of / approximate” context when useful. We do not present those figures as live, authoritative store prices. Amazon and other retailers change pricing and availability constantly — always confirm on the Canada store before buying.
We do not invent star ratings, review counts, swing weights, or independent durability scores. Affiliate compliance and FTC expectations also mean we avoid “guaranteed lowest price” style language. See theaffiliate disclosure for commission details.
Affiliate independence
Affiliate relationships do not dictate rankings or shortlist membership. We do not accept payment for placements in editorial lists. Commission rates are not a ranking input. Secondary retailer links (when configured) are optional paths to the same product category — they do not change editorial conclusions.
Update cadence
Evergreen guides are reviewed when a material catalog change lands (new flagship models, discontinued SKUs, meaningful construction shifts) or when rules/context that a guide depends on changes. We display last-updated dates on articles when available. News posts are point-in-time; we may add follow-ups rather than silently rewriting history when a story develops.
Corrections
If something is wrong — a mismatched product ID, an outdated model generation, a broken claim, or unclear affiliate labeling — emailhello@thepickleballcourt.caor use the contact page. We correct factual errors promptly and note meaningful substantive updates in the article's updated date when the change affects buying advice.
