Canada has its 2026 national champions, and one of the week’s headline results had a familiar ring to it: Team BC is on top again. British Columbia successfully defended its Provincial Team Competition title in the Greater Toronto Area, claiming gold for the second consecutive year. Team Ontario took silver on home turf, and Team Quebec earned bronze after a strong showing against Team Alberta in the bronze-medal matches. The PTC was contested August 27 at Pickleplex Downsview, with teams battling across all five categories — mixed doubles, men’s and women’s doubles, and men’s and women’s singles.
The Provincial Team event was the emotional centerpiece of a big week. The 2026 IG Wealth Management National Championships, presented by Hearing Life, ran August 24–30 across Pickleplex’s Downsview and Vaughan locations, drawing up to 1,000 competitors to 21 indoor courts. Alongside the team competition, national titles were decided across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles brackets, giving players from every province a shot at Canadian gold. With free spectator entry and a deep field, it was exactly the kind of showcase the growing Canadian scene deserves.
For BC, a repeat is no small feat. Defending a national team title means fielding depth across every discipline and holding up under pressure on the road — and doing it in Ontario, the host province, made it that much sweeter. Ontario’s silver and Quebec’s bronze point to how competitive the provincial landscape has become; the gap between the top programs keeps narrowing as participation surges nationwide.
There was pro action to round out the stretch, too. The Carvana PPA Tour’s Vancouver stop in Delta, BC — a Challenger 250 paired with a Junior 500 — wrapped up the previous weekend, feeding the Tour’s new World Pickleball Rankings and giving Canadian fans and juniors tour-level competition close to home.
Looking ahead, the domestic calendar still has a marquee date circled. The Canadian National Pickleball League’s C4 season continues toward its Championship Weekend, set for September 25–27 at The Club at Northfield in Waterloo, co-hosted by the Grand River Rapids. It’s the next big moment for fans who caught the Nationals bug and want more high-level Canadian pickleball this fall.
Step back and the picture is unmistakable. With an estimated 1.80 million Canadians now playing, a national championship that needs 21 courts and a week to complete is the natural result of a sport booming from the grassroots up. Congratulations to Team BC on the repeat, and to every athlete who earned a national title in Toronto. We’ll keep tracking the road to the CNPL final and beyond.
